Butch Leitziger survived an exciting moment at the start of the Utah Grand Prix and he and Andy Wallace finished fourth overall and third in class in today’s race. After being hit off the road going into the first turn of the first lap, such a result would have been considered fanciful at the beginning of the event. “I don’t know if the car next to me did not see me,” said Leitzinger. “He just turned into me and it was a big hit, but surprisingly the car was OK.”
On a day that Dyson Racing won the first round of the Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge, the team qualified fourth and seventh for tomorrow’s Utah Grand Prix. It was their best qualifying effort to date this year. The first nine cars on the grid broke last year’s qualifying records.
